My Sword is a Dove

This work was created post 9/11, inspired by the goal to create a book to have a discussion with my children about peace in a climate of grief and terror. The children's illustrated version consists of images in multiple formats. One is projected on a continuous loop slide show, and the other is a small book format intended for a parent to read with a child when the topic of peace is of interest. The art is created utilizing cut-outs and collage of watercolors and cyanotypes utilizing digital processes. Other versions could be made to project with musical show and as a backdrop to a live reading.

I’m going to fight
But my Sword is a Dove
I’m going to be strong
But my strength is Love

I am going to bear arms
With arms that embrace
I will blow like a storm
With the winds of grace

I will march waving sticks
But my sticks will make art
I will beat on my drum
With the beat of my heart

I am going to shout
But my voice is a song
I am going to stand proud
Proud to belong

I will bring out my bow
To play music with ease
I will take careful aim
For my target is peace
